The draw
Make some names more likely

Normally every name has the same chance. With weights on, a number after a comma gives a name that many shares: in a list of Isla and Theo, 2, Theo comes up twice as often as Isla. His slice is drawn twice as wide and the weights are printed on the receipt, so nothing is hidden.

How a spin is sealed

To begin, your browser makes a secret key: 32 random bytes from crypto.getRandomValues. Nobody sees it yet, not even us.

Before the wheel moves, the key and the names are fingerprinted together with SHA-256. That fingerprint is the seal, shown under the wheel before you tap.

After the spin, the key is shown. The winner was fixed by it before the wheel turned; the turning only shows you which.

A free wheel spinner for every decision

A wheel spinner is a simple way to make a random choice that everyone can see. You put your options on a wheel, spin it, and wherever the pointer stops is the answer. Best Wheel Spinner does this in your browser, with nothing to install and no account to make. Use it as a spinner wheel in a classroom, a random wheel generator in a team meeting, or a quick way to settle who does the washing up.

What sets this wheel apart is the proof. Most online wheels ask you to trust them. Here, each spin is sealed before the wheel turns, and afterwards anyone can check that the winner was not changed. So when you spin the wheel in front of a room, nobody has to wonder whether it was fair.

How to spin the wheel online

Using this wheel spinner online takes a few seconds, on a phone, a laptop or a classroom board.

  1. Add your entries. Type or paste them into the names box, one per line. The wheel redraws as you type.
  2. Spin. Tap Spin, tap the wheel itself, or press Space or Enter. A spin takes about two seconds, and you can make it longer or shorter.
  3. Read the result. The wheel stops at the pointer, the winning slice turns ivory and the winner appears in large letters.
  4. Check the draw. Tap Check this draw and your browser works the winner out again from the seal and the key.

Every spin wheel result lands in Spin history with its time and seal. You can download the history as a CSV file or clear it whenever you like.

Spin the wheel, custom-made

A custom wheel starts with your own list, and every slice is yours to write. When you want a spin the wheel custom setup for a lesson, a game or a giveaway, these options sit open under the wheel:

  • Weights. Write a number after a comma to give an entry more shares. Theo, 2 comes up twice as often, his slice is drawn twice as wide, and the weights are printed on the receipt.
  • Take the winner off the list. Each winner leaves the wheel as soon as it stops, with an Undo if you change your mind.
  • Pick several. Draw up to 50 different names in a single spin.
  • Saved lists. Save a list by name and load it on your next visit.
  • Share links. Copy a link that carries your whole wheel, so someone else can open the same one.
  • Look and sound. Choose the high contrast or colour-blind safe theme, set the spin time from half a second to ten seconds, and turn on ticks, a chime or confetti.

A yes or no wheel for quick decisions

Sometimes you only need a yes or no. Open the Yes or no tab above the names box and you get a wheel with two equal slices, with the same seal and receipt as any other spin. For a little more room, load the yes, no or maybe wheel. A yes or no wheel is handy for the small questions that stall a day: order in or cook, walk or drive, this one or that one.

Need a number instead? The Numbers tab turns the wheel into a random number picker. Set a range of up to 1,000 numbers and every one is equally likely, which is useful for raffles among friends, picking a page or choosing a seat.

A wheel of names for classrooms and teams

The most common use of a name wheel is deciding whose turn it is. Paste in your list and you have a wheel of names ready to go, and the tools for real rooms are built in.

In class, the shoe gives everyone one turn before anyone goes twice, and when the whole class has had a go the list refills. Tick anyone who is away today and they leave the wheel but stay on your saved list. Press P for projector mode and the wheel and result fill the board. The classroom wheel spinner page explains the setup for teachers.

At work, use the name wheel to choose who presents first, who takes the notes or who picks the next team lunch. Set Pick to two and you have a pair for a code review or a coffee chat. Because the result comes with a receipt, nobody can say the choice was fixed.

Ready-made wheels to start from

You don't have to start from a blank wheel. The ready-made wheels cover 17 common jobs, and one tap puts any of them on the wheel. There are wheels for yes or no, numbers and letters, classroom jobs and reading corners, truth or dare, dice, what's for lunch and household chores, plus NFL teams, NBA teams, seasons, months and days of the week. Load one, change any slice and spin.

Why this random wheel generator is fair

On many sites the spin is only a picture, and you can't tell how the winner was chosen. Here the order is reversed and it is all in the open. Your browser makes a 32-byte secret key with crypto.getRandomValues. The key and the entries are fingerprinted together with SHA-256, and that fingerprint is the seal, shown before you tap. The winner is fixed by the key, and the animation only shows you which slice it is.

After the spin the key is revealed. Anyone can fingerprint the key and the entries again: the same seal means nothing changed. Each receipt is a link you can send, and Check this draw recomputes the result in a second. Picks use rejection sampling, so no entry gets a sliver of extra chance.

The seal has a limit, and we would rather say so: it proves the result was fixed before the spin, not that nobody chose the key on purpose. That is why the key is made in your own browser and never by us.

Free, private and ready offline

Best Wheel Spinner is free, with no sign-up. The names you type stay on your device: there is no account and they are never uploaded. Saved lists and history live in your browser, and share links carry the wheel after the # sign, a part of a link browsers never send to a server. The privacy page has the details. After your first visit the page also loads without a connection, so the wheel still turns when the school wifi doesn't.

One thing the wheel is not for is gambling. The terms set out what is fine and what is not.

Spin the wheel

Small questions deserve a fair answer too. Every spin here is sealed before it turns, and the receipt is yours.

What does a wheel spinner do?

A wheel spinner makes a random choice that everyone can see. You fill the wheel with names or options, spin it, and the pointer stops on one. People use it to pick a student, choose a winner, settle whose turn it is or make a decision when nobody can agree.

What is an online wheel spinner and how does it work?

An online wheel spinner is a web page that does the job of a physical prize wheel. Type your entries, one per line, and each becomes a slice. Tap Spin and your browser picks the winner, seals that pick, then turns the wheel to land on it. Nothing needs installing.

What is the difference between a wheel spinner, picker wheel, and wheel of names?

As tools they are nearly the same thing: a wheel that picks one entry at random. Wheel spinner is the general term, picker wheel stresses the choosing, and wheel of names usually means a wheel of people. Picker Wheel and Wheel of Names are also the names of other websites. This site does all three jobs.

What is the best online wheel spinner?

It depends on the job, and we are biased. Look for a wheel that is free, needs no sign-up, keeps your names private and lets you check the result. Best Wheel Spinner was built around those four things, and every spin comes with a receipt anyone can check.

Is the wheel spinner completely free to use, and do I need an account?

Yes, it is free, and no account is needed. There is no sign-up and no payment. Open the page, add your entries and spin as many times as you like.

Is there a free spinning wheel app?

Yes. Best Wheel Spinner runs free in any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer, so there is nothing to download. To keep it like an app, use your browser’s Install or Add to Home Screen option. After your first visit it also opens without a connection.

How many names or entries can I add to the wheel at once?

Up to 5,000 entries, each up to 120 characters. The Numbers tab handles up to 1,000 numbers. On very full wheels the slices get too thin to label, but every entry still has its chance and the winner appears in large letters.

Should I go yes or no?

The wheel cannot know what is right for you, but it can break a tie. Open the Yes or no tab and spin: each answer has an equal chance. Then notice how you feel when it lands. Relief or disappointment often shows what you really wanted. Please don’t leave decisions about health, money or the law to a wheel.

How do I make a yes or no wheel?

Open the Yes or no tab above the names box. You get a wheel with two equal slices, Yes and No. Tap Spin, or load the ready-made Yes, no or maybe wheel for a third answer.

How do I pick a random number?

Open the Numbers tab and set From and To. The range can hold up to 1,000 numbers, and every one is equally likely. For the usual jobs there are ready-made wheels for 1 to 10, 1 to 100 and a dice from 1 to 6.

How can a wheel help when we can’t decide what to eat or who does the chores?

Load a ready-made wheel, such as What’s for lunch or the Chore wheel, change any slice and spin. There are 17 ready-made wheels to start from. Because the wheel chooses, nobody has to be the one who decided.

Is this online wheel spinner truly random and fair?

Yes. Your browser makes a 32-byte key with crypto.getRandomValues, its cryptographic random number generator, and turns it into a stream of numbers with SHA-256. Rejection sampling then picks the winner, so no entry gets a sliver of extra chance. It is computer randomness, not a physical process, but nobody can predict it.

Can an online spin the wheel be rigged or manipulated?

Some can. On many sites the spin is only a picture, and you can’t see how the winner was chosen. Here the page shows a seal before each spin: a fingerprint of the entries and a secret key. After the spin it shows the key, and Check this draw works the winner out again, so a changed result would fail.

What can the seal not prove?

It proves the result was fixed before the spin and not changed after. It cannot prove nobody chose the key on purpose, which is why the key is made in your own browser and never by us. It also cannot show how many times someone spun before showing you a result, so spin live when it matters.

Why did the wheel land on the same name twice in a row?

Because each spin is a fresh draw that doesn’t remember the last one. With 12 names, the last winner has a 1 in 12 chance on the next spin, the same as everyone else. Over ten spins, a back-to-back repeat turns up more often than not. To stop repeats, use the shoe or take each winner off the list.

Does the order of names or clicking "Shuffle" affect the odds of winning?

No. The order only decides where each slice sits, and every entry keeps the same chance wherever it is. That is why this wheel has no Shuffle button: it wouldn’t change anything. What does change the odds is a name typed twice, which gets two slices and twice the chance.

How do weighted slices and custom odds work on the wheel?

Turn on Use weights under Options, then write a number from 1 to 1,000 after a comma, like Theo, 2. That number is how many shares the name gets, so with Isla and Theo, 2, Theo has a 2 in 3 chance. Theo’s slice is drawn twice as wide and the weights are printed on the receipt. Weights work on the Names tab.

Is a browser wheel spinner certified for government lotteries or high-stakes legal draws?

No. This wheel is not certified or audited by any regulator, and a seal is not a licence. Don’t use it for lotteries, betting, paid-entry draws or any draw the law says must be run by a licensed operator. It is made for classrooms, teams, games, everyday choices and free-to-enter giveaways.

How do I make sure everyone gets a turn?

Use the shoe, under Turns. Each name drawn leaves the wheel, so everyone goes once before anyone goes twice, and when the last one is picked the full list comes back. You can also tick anyone who is away today and they stay off the wheel.

How do I pick random pairs or teams?

Set Pick to the size you want, up to 50, and one spin draws that many different names. To split a whole group, turn on Take the winner off the list and keep spinning until the wheel is empty. It works just as well for choosing who presents or who takes the notes.

How do I pick a giveaway winner people will trust?

Paste in the entries, one line per entry, and spin live if you can. Then use Copy receipt link and post it, so anyone can check the winner against the seal. Set Pick higher for several winners. Free-to-enter giveaways are fine; draws people pay to enter are not.

Can I save my wheel, share it or keep a record of spins?

Yes. Save lists by name in this browser, or copy a share link that carries the whole wheel. Spin history keeps the time, winners, seal and key of your last 500 spins, and you can download it as a CSV file.

Do the names leave my device?

No. There is no account and no server storing your names. Lists are saved in your browser. A share link carries the names after the # sign, a part of a link browsers never send to a server.

Does it work offline and on a projector?

Yes. After your first visit the page loads without a connection. Press P for projector mode: the result and the wheel fill the screen, and Space spins.

Can I use the wheel if I am colour-blind or use a keyboard?

Yes. Choose the colour-blind safe or high contrast theme under Look and sound. The colour-blind theme numbers each slice. Space or Enter spins, P opens projector mode, R removes the winner and Esc leaves projector mode.
